Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Maurice DENHAM (1909-2002)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Maurice Denham, actor, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews while watching his new film, Mr Love, in a preview cinema on Wardour Street in London's Soho.
Maurice, who was born in Beckenham and educated at Tonbridge School, trained as a lift engineer before he became an actor in 1934, appearing in early live television broadcasts before making a name for himself on radio in the comedy series ITMA and Much Binding in the Marsh, in which he provided over sixty different voices.
Constantly in demand as a character actor, he made over 100 films such as Night of the Demon and The Purple Plain, for which he was nominated for a BAFTA award. On television, his notable roles were in series such as The Lotus Eaters and Madame Curie.
